With these new updates, Google is now bringing the Material You redesign to their Search app. The Discover feed, a major part of the Google app, has received makeovers, but other parts haven’t gotten any major changes. Well, thanks to an APK Insight article, we get a first-hand look at how this redesign will look on your Samsung Galaxy device.
The Material You bottom bar now has pill-shaped indicators at the bottom of the screen. The height of the new design is similar to their previous one, but this shouldn’t be surprising, as some Google apps such as Google Maps and Gmail have tried other designs and have removed text labels in order to make the bottom bar more prominent.
The folks at 9To5Google noticed that the bottom bar on the Search app’s iteration is not quite as tall as the previous design. Using Material You, the accent color can be changed without limit. As of now, it’s still blue, but this won’t be set in stone for the roll-out of this redesign.
The Material You design can also be seen in the Google app settings. It gets a big header and pill-shape search bar below it, and more spacing between menu items. You’ll also have a brief description of each Settings item to help you find what you’re looking for.
The Google Search Material app will soon feature M3-style toggles. Since the redesign is currently in development, it may take some time before it becomes official.
