One of the many complaints against Google Voice was it’s lack of real-time, one-on-one messaging. So, when Google decided to add this feature in Hangouts Chat, people suddenly showed irritation. This outrage is making me believe that, based on what I saw on Reddit and MainStream Media, they were expecting a seamless implementation with no bugs to fix
What is review bombing?
Google chat is currently being review bombed on the play store. Google has yet to provide a satisfactory explanation for the sudden increase in reviews for the app.
Review bombing is when someone artificially inflates the number of positive reviews for an app on the play store in order to adversely affect its rating and possibly drive away potential customers. In this case, it seems that Google may have inadvertantly given the app a boost due to users attempts to badmouth it in order to generate negative feedback.
This isn’t the first time that Google Chat has been subject to review bombing. Back in March of this year, the app was bombarded with negative reviews just two weeks after its release on the play store. It’s unclear exactly what caused this spike in negativity, but it could’ve been related to an issue with Chat’s login process or user interface.

Review bombing is happening on the Play Store
Google is currently facing a review bombing on their Play Store. Review bombs are when a lot of negative reviews are posted for any given app or service, and this generally happens when there’s something wrong with the product. Many people believe that Google may be responsible for the review bombing of Google Chat because a lot of people are leaving negative reviews without explanation. However, Google has yet to offer an explanation for why this is happening. Regardless of the reason, if you’re getting a lot of negative reviews and reviews from people who seem to be experiencing the same issues (and no app experts posting assessments), it’s a safe bet that there is something wrong with that product or service, and there may be an explanation for why. However, whether the firing of an employee who asked for Pichai’s help on improving Google Inbox is related to this review bombing is, unfortunately, not known at this time. The company
Google has no explanation for the reviews from consumers
GoogleChat is a messaging app that is currently being reviewed bomb on the Google Play store. Given that the app has only been available for a few days, it’s not surprising to see a high number of negative reviews. Although Google has yet to provide an explanation for the reviews, some believe that they may be linked to an old issue with the app. One Reddit post by user u/db-ra6y, who is a moderator of the Android subreddit, stated that “some users complained about some ads not appearing in the message inbox.” He claimed the issue was fixed at some point in time and there are only “shady” apps making it look like it’s an ongoing problem.
According to Android Police, that ad hop happens when messages are sent at night when advertisers have fewer visitors.

The overall outcome of Google Chat being reviewed bombed on the Play Store
Google Chat is already being review bombed on the Play Store, with no explanation as to why. Furthermore, this has led to people asking Google what the cause of the bomb is. So far, Google has not released a statement addressing this matter.\n
One possible explanation could be that people are unhappy with the app’s current state. For instance, certain features may not be working as intended or may be lacking in comparison to other chat apps. Additionally, some users may feel that other chat apps offer better features overall. As a result of this negative sentiment, Google Chat may be receiving negative reviews simply because it’s competing against other high-quality options.
Regardless of the reason, Google should release a statement clarifying what is going on and reassure users that their feedback is being taken into account. Until then, it’s unclear if this trend will continue or if Google Chat will soon be replaced by a better option on the Play Store. nnEnterprise customers will see these relase notes and updates surrounding Google Chat, but what is this?
