Sure, Google banned 16 Android apps that were hugely popular. But you’re okay as long as you delete them now, right?
Over 12 million Android users need to double-check their phones for dangerous apps that have been banned from the Google Play Store.
More than 20 million Android users have downloaded applications from the Google Play Store that were secretly hiding dangerous malware. The 16 popular apps were loaded with the new Clicker strain of malware, which is being used by cyber criminals to get illegal advertising revenue. One of these apps was downloaded over 10 million times.
This new bug was spotted by security experts at McAfee, who informed Google of their findings with malicious apps later being delisted from the Play Store.
However, if you downloaded any of them before they were taken down by Google, they will still remain on your Android device.
Those who don’t delete this dangerous Android app could see what resources their phone or tablet has left drain very quickly. These users are likely to experience slowed performance.
That drain in performance and battery life can lead to a device getting hotter than usual, as well as lots of monthly data.
This news comes soon after a recent warning, where Facebook earlier this month stated that over 400 iPhone and Android apps are capable of stealing usernames and passwords.

McAfee researchers found a nasty new bug, which they reported to Google. They confirmed that some malicious apps have been removed from the Play store.

Poor cellular connectivity and inconsistent signal can cause a host of problems for your smartphone: degraded performance, battery life that depletes quicker than normal, the device can heat up and you may also see low data speeds.
This is just one more bad piece of news in the wake of an earlier, more troubling warning. Recently, Facebook warned users about over 400 Android and iPhone apps that can steal passwords.

Recently, McAfee Research Team announced that a new threat to Android has infiltrated the Google App Store . Specifically, these 16 previously-available apps were found to have the malicious payload with an estimated 20 million installations.
“McAfee security researchers notified Google, and all of the identified apps are no longer available on Google Play. Users are also protected by Google Play Protect.”
The most popular apps that have been identified with the Clicker malware are High-Speed Camera (10+ million downloads), Smart Task Manager / DxClean (5+ million installs) and Flashlight+ (1+ million users).
If you downloaded the DxClean app, then you’ll definitely want to steer clear of a nasty surprise. The app claimed it would improve phone performance and end pesky ads – but instead, it did the exact opposite.
However, chances are that no one was aware of the threat until McAfee revealed it.
The malware would not activate until at least an hour after installation, a measure likely taken to ensure the user isn’t aware of something being wrong.
The app was only delayed when the user was actively using their Android device.
Once malicious webpages are opened, they generate revenue by generating illicit advertising. Users never know their PCs or mobile devices have been compromised until their banking accounts are emptied.
To remove an app from the Google Play Store, follow these steps…
Use the Google Play Store app to open Google Play.

Tap on the Manage apps and devices button, then choose Manage
