Google Meet has the ability to auto-frame you when you can’t frame yourself.
Google has a lot of features and improvements coming to Meet, but they’re designed to make it easier and more convenient for users. For example, Meet now has multiple co-hosts that can enable new features to make calls easier. They also want you to be able to stay center-stage at all times with their auto-framing feature.
It’s now easier to have virtual meetings on your smartphone. Google Meet has announced that you won’t have to keep up with frame rates anymore, because their new auto-framing feature is here.
The machine-guided framing will only happen once during the call. So the camera won’t follow you around and constantly be reframing video or be distracted by other content on your screen much like Apple’s “Center Stage” feature. You can manually reframe your video at any time during the call.
The historic new feature is rolling out very slowly. Those who are on a Rapid Release domain will get the new feature next month. If you’re on a Scheduled Release domain, then you’ll have to wait until the end of this month before you can take full advantage of the auto-frame option. Other exceptions include Workplace Essentials, Business Starter, Education Fundamentals, Frontline, and Nonprofits; legacy G Suite customers; and normal users. My personal favorite is that Google One subscribers will also get auto-frame — how do go figure?
When the feature is released, it will be turned off by default. However, you’ll need to enable it whenever you’re ready.
The features of this camera are meant for business use. This can be a neat addition to your next work video call, so if you have an eligible account, definitely keep an eye out for it.
